Pretty Ethel…

About a week ago, we found this beautiful antique china cabinet that we named Ethel.  She needed a little TLC as you can see, but was in great overall condition.  She told a story of her past.  On the backside, the original owner had carved their name into the wood backing.  I think one of my favorite things about antiques is their history.

A friend and neighbor of ours saw her picture, and immediately decided she had to have Ethel!  We pictured her painted in antique white with duck egg blue interior.  Our friend agreed, and here she is all gussied up.

Her hardware was so beautiful, we decided to leave it as is.  Her mom says her drawer pulls look like drop earrings.

When we painted her, her details really came out.  We hadn't even noticed the beautiful carving above the molding.

Yes that is me in the reflection ;)

Ethel is truly a work of art and craftsmanship.  Dove tailed drawer, intricate carvings, wood overlay on the glass door, I could go on and on!  She was hard to give up!  She's all settled in her new home and her mom is thoroughly enjoying her.  Hopefully I'll find another just like her.
