It's been awhile because it has been crazy!

Yes, crazy!  We have been so busy the past few weeks, and we are grateful for it.  We've had an amazing sales month at Southern Marketplace.  Between school starting, painting non stop and well, the not great news, my husband was let go from his job.  So being busy with salvage has been a blessing.

I wanted to share some of my favorite pieces the last few weeks.  First up, Miss Madeline.  Oh, gasp… she was my absolute favorite piece!  I really din't want to part with her.  We decided on classic navy to dress her up.  So many beautiful details, carved molding, chunky baluster legs, beautiful original hardware…she was loved by many and is treasured by her new mama I'm sure.

Next up, we had Granny Smith!  She was so much fun!  Vintage bow front china cabinet.

Then we had Eva…gorgeous custom peacock blue paint color.  She was snatched up right away!

We were so busy, I only took some cell phone shots of other pieces.

Ethel 2!  She is still available.
There were a few other pieces too, but this one is our latest, currently available at Southern Marketplace.  Meet Cecilia, a gorgeous vintage large cream buffet.  She boasts a serpentine front, original hardware, a stunning walnut stained top and loads of storage!

Lot's more pieces in the works!  I will try my best to keep up with blogging.  And don't forget…

Ciao!

What's Up With the Names, and Meet Gwen...

My youngest daughter says to me, "Why do you name the furniture?" I bet some of you were wondering that too.  There are two very good reasons why I name each piece we do.  Firstly, it is easier to keep track of the pieces that way and easier for me to reference them by name to clients.  Secondly, it's just quirky and fun. It brings life to the pieces, creates a story.  So yea, it may be a little odd, but it works for me. ;)

Now on to Gwen.  This is what poor Gwen looked like when we picked her up.  She was quite sad.

She had been neglected quite a bit, and lost her former glory.  We were in love with her pedestal base and gorgeous chairs.  So we hopped to prettying her up!  Take a look at her now in our booth at Southern Marketplace.

We painted her table top Annie Sloan French Linen, and her base, apron and chairs Duckegg Blue.  Such a great combination.  Reminds me of the beach a bit, very tranquil.

Have I mentioned I hate painting spindles?  Like truly hate it?  What a pain, but so worth it. I love the carved detail on the chairs.

She really is gorgeous now.  We are thrilled with how she turned out.  And take a look at the sign we had made for our booth by a local artist.

In love!  I need to figure out what I want for our home.  I really adore the look of these reclaimed pallet wood signs, and have the perfect spot in my great room for a nice big one. If you have any suggestions as to what saying we should use, leave a comment.  And if you are interested in a sign of your own, I'll give you the gal's information.  She is a joy to work with!

Off to paint more pieces…wait till you see what we are working on now.

Gorgeous Grace…

Meet Grace. A beautiful buffet we picked up this week.  She was in mint condition, and had such beautiful lines.  I love her fluting and door moldings.

After a little poll on our Facebook page, we went with Paris Gray paint.  I used dark wax and distressed her a fair amount.  Love her makeover!

Love the pretty drop handles on the doors.

This fluting was to die for!

I liked her hardware, so I dry brushed on the gray paint.

I'm really pleased with how she came out!  She would make a great media stand or buffet.  She's all set  for a new home.  You can purchase Grace at Southern Marketplace in Indian Trail.

Pretty Ethel…

About a week ago, we found this beautiful antique china cabinet that we named Ethel.  She needed a little TLC as you can see, but was in great overall condition.  She told a story of her past.  On the backside, the original owner had carved their name into the wood backing.  I think one of my favorite things about antiques is their history.

A friend and neighbor of ours saw her picture, and immediately decided she had to have Ethel!  We pictured her painted in antique white with duck egg blue interior.  Our friend agreed, and here she is all gussied up.

Her hardware was so beautiful, we decided to leave it as is.  Her mom says her drawer pulls look like drop earrings.

When we painted her, her details really came out.  We hadn't even noticed the beautiful carving above the molding.

Yes that is me in the reflection ;)

Ethel is truly a work of art and craftsmanship.  Dove tailed drawer, intricate carvings, wood overlay on the glass door, I could go on and on!  She was hard to give up!  She's all settled in her new home and her mom is thoroughly enjoying her.  Hopefully I'll find another just like her.

Welcome to Salvage!

Since this is our first blog post, I thought I'd tell you what inspired us, my husband and I, to create Salvage.  Some background on us, my husband has done construction on the side for 20 years, and loves to fix things. I have designed clothing and am currently a photographer.  We've always had a love of architecture and enjoy diy projects.  We purchased our home here in North Carolina seven months ago, after moving here from New York last April.  We packed up as much as we could, rented a few months until we found our home, that needed quite a bit of work, and got settled.  Which brings me to the inspiration of Salvage…

In our move, we decided to toss our old tv cabinet.  It had seen much better days.  So my tv sat on a small purple rubbermaid bin for over a year.  All the pieces I wanted were just so expensive and we had other projects that had to be done first.  It become a joke, "Don't you love my tv stand lol."

A few weekends ago, I was surfing Facebook early in the morning and came across a dresser for sale.  It was the perfect size, and we knew we could paint it to make it look how we wanted.  It was in great condition, and quite a steal!

Here she is when we brought her home.  Pretty, but not quite what we were looking for color wise.

I ran down to a local shop that carries chalk paint.  We decided to paint her antique white and do a lot of distressing to bring out the details.  All of us, and by that I mean, my husband, myself and my two girls painted her that evening.  It was a fun family project. And here is the result.

Didn't she come out pretty?! We used Amy Howard Bahaus Buff Chalk paint and light and dark wax.  Once we saw what we did, and realized how much fun we had doing it, we decided, sure, yea, we could do this for other people.  And there was the birth of Salvage.

We currently have a booth at Southern Marketplace in Indian Trail and are taking custom orders.  Take a minute to like us on Facebook to keep up with what we are doing.
